The Northern Ireland Executive is looking for contractors to carry out £250m-worth of roadworks.

NI’s Department for Infrastructure published an official notice seeking interest in its term contract for small-scale and responsive works.

Split into 12 lots, the framework will be in existence for two years and cover a range of jobs including carriageway surfacing and adjustment of kerb lines.

Other duties could include temporary and permanent repairs to surface defects, the introduction of traffic-calming measures and the provision of drainage systems.

The arrangement also covers earthworks such as verge reconstruction, as well as civil works associated with traffic signals at junctions.

Work will be divided up regionally with lots covering the following areas:

  • Newry, Mourne and Down
  • Mid and East Antrim
  • Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon
  • Causeway Coast and Glens
  • Belfast
  • Mid Ulster
  • Antrim and Newtownabbey
  • Omagh
  • Derry and Strabane
  • Fermanagh
  • Ards and North Down
  • Lisburn and Castlereagh

Contractors have until 1 February to express their interest in the work.

Elsewhere in Northern Ireland, the strategic housing authority released 10 contractors from maintenance contracts during the autumn to save them from potentially falling into administration.

In other news, three major construction consultancies were named as part of a £200m deal in May to build innovation centres for Queen’s University Belfast.
